Ashley agrees to babysit one last time before she moves away. Little did she know that she would have to defend against intruders that night. But it’s not like any home invasion you’re used to.
Since it’s Christmas time I figured I would start off this site with a Christmas time movie and one that I hadn’t seen before. I’ve had Better Watch Out in my Amazon queue for some time now and decided I would give it a go.
I must admit that after about the 15-20 minute mark I was fixin to turn it off. There was really nothing going on to catch my interest and there were a couple of lame jump scares that you roll your eyes out. After the home invasion part of the movie starts I still wasn’t interested but shortly after the twist happens, which I will admit I never saw coming. Then I did spend the rest of the movie wondering just how everything was going to play out.
The young actors did a pretty good job in this which is nice since you’re following these 3 for 90% or more of the movie. It is interesting to note that Olivia DeJonge and Ed Oxenbould played a brother and sister in The Visit which was surprisingly good.
Levi Miller does a pretty good job playing this despicable kid who is bat shit crazy. I was really wanting bad things happen to him.
There are influences, it seems, from other movies such as Home Alone, Funny Games and even a little bit of A Clockwork Orange!
Even though the start of the movie was a little slow and not all that interesting, Chris Peckover and the cast really do a great job at making the last 2/3 of the movie entertaining.
I don’t want to spoil to much more of the movie but I do recommend this one, so go and give it a try!
