Quick Thoughts on Nosferatu (2024)

I don’t have enough to say about Nosferatu to write a whole review on but I did want to post some quick thoughts on it because there are some parts of the film that I absolutely love!

First off I have to say that I was a little disappointed in this film. Now, I’m not saying that this is a bad film at all, it is very good. Robert Eggers never fails to make a great looking movie with some awesome and interesting shots and we have a ton of those in Nosferatu. Overall, the story just did not grab me like I was hoping it would. Most of the characters just felt a little flat to me, although the actors did do a good job with their parts. However, two elements truly stood out for me:

First thing, Count freaking Orlok baby! The fact that they didn’t make Count Orlok a normal looking vampire that you’ve seen in a 100 different movies is outstanding. The gruesome look that they settled on with the addition the voice is chilling. Bill Skarsgård take on the character is top notch and listening to the work that he put in on achieving the voice is impressive. Count Orlok is my favorite Bill Skarsgård character to date and one of my favorite vampire character of all time.

Next up is Willem Dafoe and his character Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz, what a mouthful! Dafoe is great in everything he does but he steps it up a notch with quirky and eccentric take on Prof. Franz. I would like to see a movie following Prof. Franz around fighting the supernatural. Only Dafoe could utter the line “by the first throw of cock” and make it sound serious.

Nosferatu is a very good film but I really don’t see myself re-watching it that often and if I do I would probably skip all the scenes that don’t feature either Count Orlok or Prof. Franz.
